San Diego Invitational was established in the year 1927. It started out as the San Diego Open and it took place for the next 3 year period. Then after a gap of 21 year it was re-established in 1952. In 1955 and 1956 it was Convair San Diego Open and in the year 1968 to 87 it became Any Williams San Diego Open. In 1988 Buick became the official sponsor. Buick withdrew its sponsorship in 2010 after it went Bankrupt. Farmers Insurance group of Companies are the official sponsors from now on.
